From a MIDI note to a real sound.
Connect your DAW, music app or hardware MIDI instrument to automat. Connect a solenoid beater to one of its 12 outputs, place it against something that sounds interesting, and send a note.
The controller turns MIDI into movement. The object makes the sound. Change the surface, the rhythm or the way you mount the beater, and you have a different instrument.

In November 2014, Johannes held a workshop with friends in Lund, Sweden. Seeing non-musicians get excited and experiment with sound helped inspire the dadamachines project.

Taison, an old friend of Johannes, composes for theatre productions. His work on “20.000 Meilen unter den Meeren” became an early testing ground for the toolkit.

In early 2016, Johannes was approached by BLACKSPACE to develop the MUSIC BOX installation for Audi. It brought the toolkit into a live performance setting.
